Lund, founded in the end of the 10th century by Denmark, is home to approximately 100,000 people. The university’s 38,000 students and 5,200 employees ensure the city remains student centered and full of cultural activities. Streets are always full of people and the atmosphere can be described as vibrant and friendly.

While the winding cobblestone streets of Lund constantly remind you of the city’s long history, the university itself has tremendous historical importance. While officially founded in 1666, the foundations of some university buildings in Lundagård were laid as far back as the 11th century. Ever since, the location has been vital to Scandinavia either as the seat of the archiepiscopal or a center of leading research in Scandinavia.

Incorporated into this rich history, Lund is an international city with scholars from all over the world. It has been a priority of the university for many years to develop a diverse study body - especially through their international MA programs.

The city is full of cultural activities, such as films, galleries, theater and music, in addition to the many parties offered almost nightly in student nations. Lund University’s student body belongs to various ‘nations’ which coordinate activities, offer services to students and provide housing. The most common problem with living in Lund is not having anything to due but having too many options.

Lund is also wonderfully located in southern Sweden being only 15 minutes from Malmö, a mid-size metropolitan city, and 45 minutes from Copenhagen, a large international city.
