By Blanca Antonini, Maud Edgren-Schori, Débora García-Orrico, Pierre Schori, Shahrbanou Tadjbakhsh,  and Gilles Yabi

FRIDE

This report, by FRIDE - a partner institution of our center - was published on September 28th, 2009. Below is the abstract from the reports web page:

The work looks into the design and implementation of the Security Council mandates of the UN missions and multinational operations deployed in the four cases under review and which, with the exception of UNAMA in Afghanistan, were approved within the framework of Chapter VII of the UN Charter.

The Council’s effectiveness in supporting and monitoring its own mandates and giving guidance to UN Field Missions and multinational operations it authorized, as well as the constraints under which it has acted, deserve particular attention.

This study undertaken by FRIDE with the financial support of the Government of Sweden, looks at all these complex and interconnected questions and makes recommendations for future UN missions.
