Migration and Spatial Mobility

As our world experiences unprecedented levels of migration, the consequences of these shifts are increasingly evident in our everyday lives. The Middle East region, especially the Gulf, has experienced some of the most dramatic changes internationally making this research particularly pertinent for understanding the contemporary Middle East.

Under the general rubric of this domain, we aim to cover a variety of research areas involving both qualitative and/or quantitative methods. Research activities are envisaged to include, inter alia, spatial migration patterns in Middle East countries and their relations to natural resources and political developments; migration patterns and processes driving migration within the Middle East region and between the Middle East and other parts of the world, particularly Europe; the economic, political, social and cultural impacts of migration in the ME; the consequences of integration or non-integration of migrants; and how different patterns of migration shape local social processes and the lives of individuals concerned.
