Ann Kull

Researcher

Ann Kull is an islamologist by training working on contemporary progressive developments of Islam in Indonesia. A previous project focused on gender sensitive interpretations of Islam in general and the use of them in Islamic education and women’s rights activism in particular. Of special interest is women’s roles as religious authorities – interpreters, teachers, activists and preachers – within these developments. My current research project deals with transnational student mobility in Asia. It is a joint project with Leif Stenberg and four other researchers in Lund and Gothenburg. My part of the project is concerned with higher Islamic education in Southeast Asia. I am working part time at CMES and part time as a teacher at the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies at Lund University.
