Ali Mansourian

Affiliated researcher, associate professor

Ali is senior researcher in MECW 3, senior researcher at Lund University GIS Centre, and senior lecturer at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science. He is also a council member of Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE), since October 2015. Ali’s researches are focusing on technical aspects of GIS mainly Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), spatial web services and spatially enable society as well as GIS in health studies, disaster management, and urban planning. Since 2000, he has been working with research and education in Europe and developing countries mainly Africa (Uganda, Rwanda, Mozambique), Middle-East (Iran, Iraq, Yemen) and Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan). He has long experience in coordinating and conducting large research projects, GIS courses and workshops in Sweden and in developing countries.

Ali has been coordinator of EU funded project on “Environmental Protection in Central Asia”, SIDA funded project on “Spatially enabled e-services in Uganda”, and national project “National SDI Strategic Planning in Iran” as well as advisor of World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) on using GIS for health and disaster management, to be named as some of his experiences. He has a PhD in Geomatics Engineering.
