Applying for Studies

 

Application Period

The application period for Fall 2017, is between (late) October, 2016 and mid-January, 2017.

Admission requirements

Students are required to have a bachelor's degree and a very high level of proficiency in English . As courses are structured around extensive discussion, the proficient use of English is vital. Knowledge of a Middle Eastern language is recommended but not required.

Specific requirements

  • Personal statement (800 words)
  • Three letters of recommendation signed and taped envelope (please download the Template for the letters of recommendation (Word)). (Word) This can be mailed by the student together with all documents or by the referee separately.
  • CV (one page)
  • Two short writing samples (less than 2000 words each)

English language proficiency

For non-native English speakers we require one of the following:

  • IELTS score of 7.0 (with no section less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL paper-based score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test and a total score of 600; internet-based score of 20 (scale 1-30) in written test and a total score of 100
  • A pass on English course 7 or C (Swedish upper secondary school).

How to apply

All students wishing to study at CMES must apply online, using the national application database called universityadmissions.se. You can read detailed descriptions of our programme here on our website.

Documenting your eligibility for studies

In order to document your eligibility, you must provide University Admissions in Sweden with copies of your previous study information, as well as document your English proficiency. Exactly what you need to submit, and how you need to submit various documentation, depends on a number of factors. Read more at universityadmissions.

Please note that certified copies of Diplomas, Transcipts of records and documents supporting English proficiency are to be sent to www.universityadmissions.se, while Personal statement, Letters of recommendations, CV and Writing samples are to be sent directly to the CMES' Education Coordinator, Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Box 201, 221 00 Lund.

If you are applying to a Master's programme and you do not yet have your Bachelor's degree certificate, you may still be able to apply. Read more about qualifications pending.

Tuition Fees

110,000 SEK (12,000 EUR) per year.

Tuition fees do not apply for exchange students, PhD students or EU/EEA students.

Students who are citizens of countries outside of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are generally required to pay application and tuition fees. For detailed information on tuition fees, please go here.

Acceptance

You will be notified about acceptance at the end of March for the fall semester. You must then register your confirmation of acceptance on the studera.nu website before the advised deadline. If you do not confirm your place, it will be given to another student.
