Activities August 2020

Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Iraq, the Swedish-Iraqi Studies Network held on 22.08.2020 to celebrate the launch of 12 international scientific forums.  

On behalf of His Excellency the Minister, Prof. Dr. Salah Abdel Qader Al Nuaimi, the Minister’s Advisor for Administrative and Strategic Affairs, attended.
The ceremony was also attended by a number of general directors in the ministry, heads of universities, cultural attachés abroad, deans of colleges, and a large number of academics inside and outside Iraq.

On the 11 of August, the Swedish Iraqi Studies Network organized a ten-day training course: The classification and management of journals. In the opening session, the network director, Dr. Sameer Algburi, talked about the programs adopted by the network in supporting the efforts of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research and developing researchers inside and outside Iraq.

Then the session began with a lecture by Mr. Wael Mansour, solutions advisor and regional representative for the International Elsevier Foundation, on the projects of the Ambassador Foundation in the Middle East and the world.
75 academics participated in the course and more than 60 invitees attended. At the end of the lecture, the attendees were awarded a certificate from the Elsevier Foundation.

Ibn Al-Nafis Forum in the Swedish-Iraqi Studies Network SISNET at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies CMES organized on August 8, 2020, a virtual scientific workshop attended by more than 150 doctors, researchers and those interested in the Coronavirus.
The workshop: Proposal to treat COVID-19-induced inflammation presented by Raed Mahdi, a doctoral student at Faculty of Medicine, Lund University and a researcher in the Swedish-Iraqi Studies Network included:
1. Introduction.
2. Coronaviruses.
3. Mechanism of infection and immune response.
4. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs).
5. Cystic fibrosis and NETs formation in the lung.
6. COVID-19, NETs formation, and suggestions for targeting COVID-19-induced infection.
