The 2023 Olof Palme visiting professorship has been awarded to Raphael Cohen-Almagor, professor in political studies at University of Hull, UK, by the Swedish Research Council. The Olof Palme professorship is awarded to an internationally prominent researcher focused on topics important to the pursuit of peace in a broad context within the areas of social sciences, humanities, theology and science of law.
During his time in Sweden, professor Raphael Cohen-Almagor will be based at the Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies, Lund University. During his professorship he will be working closely with a number of leading Swedish scholars on the Middle East who seek to establish long-term research collaboration on various issues related to democracy, human rights, justice, conflict resolution and diplomacy. He will also be visiting and collaborating with Gothenburg University, Swedish Institute of International Affairs, Stockholm University, Copenhagen University and Folke Bernadotte Academy.
