CMES Public Lecture with Aron Lund: Syria After the Assads

Aron Lund

Aron Lund from the Swedish Defence Research Agency visited CMES for a public lecture on the future of Syria.

On February 20, Aron Lund, a Middle East analyst at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), delivered a well-attended public lecture at the Eden Auditorium, hosted by CMES. His talk focused on recent political developments in Syria.

Aron Lund traced Syria's course over the past decade, from the outbreak of the civil war in 2011 to the unexpected shift in power and the fall of the Assad regime in late 2024. He also examined the country's uncertain future under Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), analyzing key economic and geopolitical factors shaping Syria's path forward.

The event was co-hosted by CMES, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, and The Association of Foreign Affairs in Lund as part of the CMES Research Seminar Series.
