The History of Nagorno-Karabakh

CMES researcher Svante Lundgren has been interviewed by ABC Radio Sydney about the Azerbaijani invasion of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The interview aired on 5 October 2023 on ABC Radio Sydney.

Over the last few weeks, you might have heard about Azerbaijan's invasion of a small Armenian-controlled territory called Nagorno-Karabakh. The region has been contested for quite some time. Still, this recent invasion has seen almost all ethnic Armenians flee the area, resulting in what can only be described as a humanitarian crisis. As a result of the Azerbaijani attack and the forced exodus that followed, the region will soon be empty of Armenians for the first time in more than two millennia.

Svante Lundgren is an associate professor at the Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University in Sweden, and he's the editor of the book "Armenia, Mon Amour" and joined Philip Clark to discuss the disputed territory that ethnic Armenians had governed until the recent attack.
