The courses, which are exclusively available to Lund University students and staff, are designed for those interested in working, conducting fieldwork, or carrying out research in Arabic-speaking countries. Participants gain practical linguistic skills and essential cultural knowledge relevant to both academic and professional contexts.
“Through these courses, students develop a range of practical language skills, including reading and writing in Arabic, while, most importantly, learning to use the language confidently in everyday situations says Rafah Barhoum, a language training expert and translator at CMES”.
In addition to Modern Standard Arabic, the courses introduce participants to cultural practices, traditions, and everyday life across the Arab world. This is achieved through a combination of classroom instruction, guided self-study, and engaging cultural activities.
The enthusiasm for the courses was evident this week as students gathered for their first class of the semester.
“We have seen growing interest among students and staff, and it is a joy to see so many engaged students joining their first class today,” says Ronny Berndtsson, Director of CMES.
