CMES Research Seminar: The Aesthetics, Ethics & Creativity of Swedish Muslim Art Creators

Anders Ackfeldt gives a talk about Swedish Muslim art creators.
Throughout the history of Islam, Muslim theologians have linked artistic creativity and aesthetics with religious ethics. Competing Islamic theologies have set the framework for and contributed to the development of various art expressions. These processes are well described by both art historians and historians of religion. On the other hand, few have analyzed the art creators’ own perceptions of religion and art. This project aims to highlight and critically analyze Swedish Muslim art creators and their art production based on three dimensions: aesthetics, ethics and creativity.
During the seminar Anders will introduce his research project “The Aesthetics, Ethics and Creativity of Swedish Muslim Art Creators”. The ambition is also to raise and discuss some methodological issues concerning the study of islam and Muslims in present day Sweden.
Anders Ackfeldt is a researcher at CMES and History of Religions and Religious Behavioural Science at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies, Lund University. He holds a Ph.D. in History of Religion with Specialization in Islamology from Lund University. He is the Deputy Director of the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul.
