Over the last years, wildfires have become more frequent and now constitute a global threat to life on earth. The risk of wildfire is affected by climate change and weather factors, but also directly and indirectly by human activity such as land use, fireworks and armed conflicts. With an increase in global temperature, the risk is expected to increase even more.

The photo exhibition The World is Burning includes selected photographs and texts that illustrate various aspects of wildfires in the past, present and future. The exhibition is produced by the interdisciplinary research group Wildfires in the Anthropocene at the Pufendorf Institute, Lund University. During 2022, the group has met once a month to share knowledge and discuss various aspects of fires, such as fire safety, climate change, biodiversity, public health, conflict and environmental security.

The exhibition opens with a short introduction by its researchers at 12:30 on Saturday September 17 (Culture Night in Lund). The exhibition can then be seen in the Pufendorf Institute's garden until October 10.
