Isabell Schierenbeck

Schierenbeck is Professor in Political Science at the School of Global Studies, Gothenburg University. She is currently a visiting professor at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel.
Schierenbeck’s main research fields are Middle Eastern and Israeli politics, diaspora and foreign policy, as well as public administration and migration in a comparative perspective. Her two most recent projects are; i) Diasporas and foreign policy in Sweden and Germany, with Turkey, Israel and Palestine as “states of origin”; ii) The changing political order of the Red Sea region, i.e the enhanced collaborations between the states in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa in three policy areas (peace and security, infrastructure and migration).
She has a long-lasting interest in research ethics and safety and is the co-author of Safer Field Research in the Social Sciences. A Guide to Human and Digital Security in Hostile Environments, 2020, SAGE). Apart from conducting research and teaching Schierenbeck also works in various leadership roles, including steering committees and advisory boards. She is frequently consulted as an expert commentator on Middle Eastern/Israeli politics for radio, TV and the daily press.
