Michael Degerald

Michael recently completed his PhD in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Washington. His dissertation was titled The Legibility of Power and Culture in Ba‘thist Iraq from 1968-1991. Michael is interested in cultural, intellectual, social, and media history in the Mashriq. He created a digital archive of Iraqi texts for others to access and runs a blog called History X ISIS where he writes about ISIS through the lenses of political geography and political sociology. Michael is eager to begin surveys and oral history interviews with Iraqis in Malmö and seeks to publish his dissertation as a book.
