Research Projects

CMES hosts and coordinates a large number of interdisciplinary research projects. Whereas a majority of them are part of the MECW-research program there are additional projects with external research funding from the Swedish Research Council, Fortes, Riksbankens Jubileumsfund, the European Commission, Australian Research Council and more.

Recognizing that the complexities of the Middle East region are best addressed through interdisciplinary research collaboration, the research staff consists of scholars from different disciplines and faculties, such as social sciences, humanities, theology, languages, engineering and natural sciences.

CMES aspires to produce cutting-edge research on the Middle East, which also informs our teaching and wider societal engagement. We are always actively seeking new research opportunities, synergies and collaboration also beyond academia. To learn more about current and previous research projects, please visit the CMES page in LU's research portal.
