Ali Mansourian

Affiliated Researcher, Associate Professor

Ali is a senior researcher in the MECW research area Environment and Sustainable Development in the Middle East, senior researcher at Lund University GIS Centre, and a senior lecturer at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science. He is also a council member of Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE), since October 2015.

Ali’s research focuses on the technical aspects of GIS, mainly Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), spatial web services and spatially enable society as well as GIS in health studies, disaster management, and urban planning. Since 2000, he has been working with research and education in Europe and developing countries mainly Africa (Uganda, Rwanda, Mozambique), the Middle-East (Iran, Iraq, Yemen) and Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan). He has extensive experience in coordinating and conducting large research projects, GIS courses, and workshops in Sweden and in developing countries.

Ali has been coordinator of an EU funded project on “Environmental Protection in Central Asia”, SIDA funded project on “Spatially enabled e-services in Uganda”, and a national project “National SDI Strategic Planning in Iran”, as well as advisor to the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) on using GIS for health and disaster management. He holds a PhD in Geomatics Engineering.
