Alireza Shomali

Guest Researcher

Alireza Shomali (Ph.D. Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University) is Professor of Political Science and Jane E. Ruby Chair in Humanities and Social Sciences at Wheaton College (in Massachusetts). He was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University's CMES, and a visiting fellow at Brandeis University's Crown Center for Middle Eastern Studies.

His field of inquiry is Comparative (Western, Perso-Islamicate) Political Theory and his recent book, Thoughtlessness and Decadence in Iran: A Sojourn in Comparative Political Theory, is published by the State University of New York Press (SUNY Press, 2019). 

In his research at CMES, he explores the intellectual makeup of political mysticism in post-revolutionary Iran, comparing it with the political theology of mid-twentieth century Germany.
