I defended my dissertation Semiotics Resources in US Hip-Hop Culture in religious history with a specialization in Islamology in 2019. It deals with how Islam is expressed in U.S. Hip-hop culture.
I have taught classes and supervised in Islamology, Middle Eastern Studies, European Studies, and Human Rights Studies. My academic interests mainly revolve around debates concerning Islam, music and art creation. I have a keen interest in African-American Islam as well as in theoretical perspectives on the academic study of Islam
