CMES in Almedalen: Climate Challenges in the Middle East

The ongoing climate change has an enormous impact on socio-political and economic conditions in the Middle East. The region is one of the most vulnerable and global warming is twice as fast in this region as in the rest of the world. What challenges does the region face as a result of climate change?
The water situation in most countries is extremely strained and several of these will not be able to supply their population with food to the same extent as previously. This means an increased risk of migration waves, especially in connection with potential conflict hotspots. This panel will discuss the challenges and likely risk factors that the region is facing as a result of climate change.
