CMES Research Seminar: Greek-Turkish Relations From the ‘Megali Idea’ to the Population Exchange of 1923

Presentation by Rainer Liedtke (University of Regensburg) on Greek-Turkish relations.
This event is co-organized with the project Beyond Sacred/Secular Cities - Exploring Politics of Memory, Space, and Religion in Middle Eastern Nationalisms.
Rainer Liedtke holds his PhD in modern history from Oxford University. Since 2014 he is Professor of 19th and 20th century European History at the University of Regensburg in Germany and principal investigator of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies. His main research areas include urban history, Jewish history and Greek history. He has published, among other things:Jewish Welfare in Hamburg and Manchester, c. 1850-1914 (Oxford: Oxford University Press 1998); "Die südeuropäische Stadt. Themenheft der Informationen zur modernen Stadtgeschichte" (2/2009 with Martin Baumeister); andPhilanthropie und Religion in den europäischen Zivilgesellschaften. Historische Beispiele, 1800-1950 (Paderborn: Schöningh 2009 with Klaus Weber).
