On 23 April, CMES researchers Svante Lundgren and Pinar Dinc participated in a panel discussion at Yerevan State University (YSU) for the launch of a new open access edited book by Pinar Dinc and Olga Selin Hunler (Acıbadem University), The Republic of Turkey and its Unresolved Issues: 100 Years and Beyond. The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Svante Lundgren, with Pinar Dinc and Kerem Öktem as speakers, and Ruben Melkonyan and Ashot Hayruni offering commentary. The event was well-attended and received media coverage in Armenia, including a video available here.
In recognition of his long-standing commitment to academic exchanges between Sweden and Armenia, Svante Lundgren was presented with a medal by YSU during the event.
On 25 April, Pinar Dinc gave an invited lecture at YSU's Faculty of Oriental Studies on Multiculturalism in Turkey.
The following day, Svante Lundgren and Pinar Dinc participated in a workshop with scholars from YSU and the American University of Armenia. The workshop focused on the research project Synthesis of Islam and Nationalism in Armenia’s Neighbouring Countries (Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Georgia): Transformations of Identity and Politics.
Throughout their visit, Svante Lundgren and Pinar Dinc also met with civil society actors, scholars, and activists, engaging with Assyrian, Yezidi, and Kurdish communities.
