CMES Calls and Research Grants
The Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies supports and coordinates research projects with high scientific potential through the Strategic Research Area (SRA): Middle East in the Contemporary World (MECW). Researchers at Lund University are invited to apply to the following calls:
The Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) provides seed money for research initiation and preparation of applications for national and international research calls. Two such research initiations will be granted during 2026-27. CMES offers office space and modern research facilities in a stimulating work environment on historic premises. Administrative, practical, and technical support is available on site.
- Applicant: Employed at Lund University.
- Grant period: Autumn 2026-Spring 2027
- Application deadline: 31 August 2026
- Budget: Specified costs for work time at CMES, and other related costs necessary for application preparing

The Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) supports and coordinates workshops and seminars with high scientific potential through the Strategic Research Area (SRA): Middle East in the Contemporary World (MECW). CMES funds 1-2 new workshops per year and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers from different disciplines within Lund University. Workshop proposals should focus on novel interdisciplinary research questions related to the MECW research program. The workshops are organised at CMES.
- Applicant: Researchers with doctoral degrees and with employment at Lund University.
- Grant period: 12 months
- Application deadline: 31 August 2026

- Start of workshop grant: 7 September 2026
- End of workshop grant: 31 May 2027
- Budget: maximum 100 000 SEK

CMES will fund 1-2 new research projects during 2026-2029 and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers from different disciplines within Lund University. Project proposals should be focused on novel interdisciplinary research questions related to the MECW research program. All project members will have institutional affiliation with CMES and perform the research at CMES. Office space, meeting rooms and modern technical facilities are provided for.
