Celebrating Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, has become a cherished annual tradition at CMES. On March 19, CMES staff and students gathered at Finngatan to mark the arrival of spring with delicious Iranian cuisine and cultural celebration.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about the significance of Nowruz (meaning "new day") and the traditional Haft-Seen table, which is arranged with seven symbolic items, as the number seven is considered lucky. Each item begins with the letter "S" in Persian, representing different aspects of life and prosperity:
Seeb (apple) – Symbolizing beauty
Seer (garlic) – Representing good health
Serkeh (vinegar) – Signifying patience
Sonbol (hyacinth) – Celebrating the arrival of spring
Samanu (sweet pudding) – A symbol of fertility
Sabzeh (sprouts) – Representing rebirth and renewal
Sekeh (coins) – A wish for prosperity
