Masculinity in the Middle East and North Africa

Red cover of the Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication

CMES PhD researcher Joel Abdelmoez has reviewed the book "Constructions of Masculinity in the Middle East and North Africa" edited by Mohja Kahf and Nadine Sinno. The book review is published in Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication.

In the review, Joel writes:

"While many works have taken an anthropological or ethnographical approach (cf. Ghannam, 2013; Naguib, 2015;  Malmström, 2021), Constructions of Masculinity in the Middle East and North Africa fills a gap by focusing specifically on masculinity through the lens of cultural and literary studies. The last comparable anthology is now more than 20 years old (Ghoussoub and Sinclair-Webb, 2000), making this a very welcome contribution, bringing the field up to date and bridging research and theories on masculinities with Middle Eastern cultural and literary studies."
