Book Review: The Kurds, Erdoğan's Turkey and Sweden

CMES researcher Svante Lundgren has written a review of a book about Erdoğan's Turkey, the Kurds and Sweden.

The reviewed book is called Endast den som är turk är lycklig: Erdoğan, kurderna och Sverige (English translation: Only the Turks Are Happy: Erdoğan, the Kurds and Sweden) and was written by Kurdo Baksi (Kaunitz-Olsson, 2023). Svante's review was published in Ny Tid on 23 May, 2023.

In the book, Baksi intersperses information about Turkey and the situation of the Kurds with his own memories. He writes about the lies modern Turkey is built on, Sweden's connection to the Ottoman Empire, about Erdoğan - "the easily offended dictator", the PKK, and the contemporary relationship between Turkey and Sweden.

Kurdo Baksi's book is well written, compelling and easy to read. But the book also gives a split impression - the author jumps from one topic to another; often it only scratches the surface. The reader would often like to know much more about something that is settled in a few pages.
