Middle Eastern research news from Lund University

Message from the director

Seasonal greetings from the team at the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies

This has been a strange and challenging year. We have just closed down the Centre temporarily due to escalating Covid-19 pandemic.

However, in 2021 we hope to be moving towards brighter times! CMES is set to launch some new initiatives to consolidate interdisciplinary Middle East research at Lund University. We welcome applications for “writing retreats” and “local sabbaticals” at CMES for LU scholars who need research time to finish a book, article or a report. New PhD positions will be opened as part of the efforts to foster a new generation of Middle East scholarship.

Nearly set is also the spring program of CMES new research seminar series. We are thrilled and excited that CMES first public seminar will be hosting the outstanding Swedish Radio journalist Cecilia Uddén for a talk on the regional implications of the new peace treaties in the Middle East on 3 February 2021.

So stay tuned on CMES website and by subscribing to the Newsletter! Keep safe and healthy!

Wishing you happy holidays and a peaceful New Year!

Karin Aggestam, CMES director and MECW coordinator
